Inaugural Fletcher’s Boathouse Wounded Heroes Shad Fishing Event

Summary:  Fishingcommunity.org is holding a spring shad fishing event for wounded heroes and their families.  Every spring, thousands of American and Hickory shad return to the Potomac River.  This event will allow a significant cross section of the wounded warrior community to interact and share in a fantastic setting.  We invite your feedback, support, and other assistance.  Contact us for additional details. 

Event logistics:

  1. Friday April 25, 2014 –  7am – 5pm

  2. Fletcher’s Boathouse, Canal Road, Georgetown, DC

  3. 50-100 Wounded Heroes fishing from boats – catch and release

  4. Supporting guides and coaches (30-40) – Spin and fly fishing

  5. Invited Pentagon, Congress, White House, and other officials to fish or meet/greet

  6. Food, drink, shelter

  7. On shore activities from 2-5 – prizes, pictures, presentations

  8. Wrap up and post event sharing

Pre-event assistance:

  1. Advisory board:  We’re looking for passionate and well-connected individuals to help

  2. Sponsorship:  We’re seeking sponsors at multiple dollar levels and also in-kind sponsors

  3. Attendees:  We’re reaching out nationally for invites to our wounded heroes

  4. Event planning:  We’re seeking volunteers who can help organize a world class event

Event volunteering:

  1. Guides/fishing volunteers:  Work with our attendees to catch these great fish

  2. Event support:  We need a wide range of expertise and volunteers for many purposes
